About CYT Classes

CYT offers theatrical classes for children ages 4-17 over the course of three sessions during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. CYT classes meet once a week for 10 weeks, and run for 2 hours (1 hour for ages 4-5). Classes are available for students of any level of experience, with offerings ranging from drama, dance, vocal, and improv, to specialty classes like makeup design, puppetry, and so much more.

At the end of a CYT session, students will come away with improved skills in the area of emphasis. During the last week of class, a high-energy showcase is presented by each class to demonstrate to other students, family, and friends what they have learned.

*If your student has an IEP and needs additional assistance, please let us know prior to the first class day so we can accommodate.

CYT Master Classes

An opportunity for advanced students to fine-tune and expand their skills in a specific focus of the arts. In an effort to serve experienced students who strive to become more well-rounded in their craft, CYT’s Master Classes offer a more in-depth and fast-paced journey of arts education. Master Classes are offered in a variety of exciting advanced skill sets that are not as commonly seen in our normal week sessions. Due to the intensive nature of these classes, they may be offered in a different timeline than our traditional classes (example: a 3 hour class that meets each week for 5 weeks). Master Classes do not have a showcase at the end of the class, but students may be asked to demonstrate a sample of their learning at the chapters showcase.

CYT Workshops

CYT workshops are an incredible way to gain quick experience in a variety of skills and trades. Workshops come in all shapes and sizes, and range from single-day intensives in the arts, to week-long trainings in leadership and college prep. Learn from special guest educators who are experts in their field, and gain knowledge from working professionals.

Teachers

A CYT Teacher’s mission is to train and instruct students in such a way as to promote the development of character, self-esteem, and confidence. CYT teachers are qualified and experienced in the area in which they teach. They have been trained in the CYT methods of instruction and agree with the CYT values and outcome goals.  All CYT teachers have been background checked and adhere to our CYT Mission and Values. Our teachers truly care about their students and provide a constructive and fun environment for them to learn.

Curriculum

CYT offers a wide variety of classes, and they all enable students to gain valuable theater arts training, develop confidence and make friends! There are currently over 50 different curriculum materials available in a variety of musical theater areas. CYT San Diego offers classes in acting, dancing, and singing, as well as specialty classes. Specialty classes include curriculum such as special effects makeup, prop making, theater tech, and more! Please note these classes vary per session.

Showcase

Parents, friends, and relatives are invited to attend CYT's Showcase performance on the last day / evening of classes, free of charge! Showcase is the grand finale of each session of classes, at which every class makes a 5-10 minute presentation of something they have learned and rehearsed during the session. Don't miss the action!
